Store Room: Mood Board

The store room in the Men of Letters bunker in Supernatural (Room 7b) is not only a store room, but behind a couple of swivel shelves, is a "dungeon" of sorts, containing a Devil's Trap in iron on the floor.

As I mentioned previously, I don't have the room for both the store room and the dungeon, so I was going to combine them both in a small room off the kitchen.  There will be lots of shelving, containing interesting bits and bobs, and a trap in the floor. Maybe chains on the wall!

I can't decide how to make the doorway between the store room and the kitchen - I kind of feel it should be secret, but I'm not sure how to achieve that in reality.

Anyway, food for thought.

The Bunker: Kitchen & Mess Mood Board

The kitchen and mess will be located on the second floor of the dollhouse. The mess will be off the stairs, and the kitchen, on the other side of the dividing wall.

In amongst the miniatures I ordered from Shapeways, I have ordered this 1:24 scale vintage oven. So cute! I've also seen an old fashioned cabinet kit on a dollhouse website which I hope to paint to resemble the large fridge/freezer unit on the back wall.

I won't be making my kitchen as big as the actual one, as I would like to devote as much space as possible to the store room/ dungeon, which will be located adjacent to the kitchen.  Other than that, I haven't thought too much about these areas yet.

The Bunker: Library Mood Board

Books, books and more books, with some artifacts thrown in basically!  Plus tables and chairs of course.  These are some stills from the Men of Letters bunker set from Supernatural.

At the far end of the room is an alcove featuring a telescope. I'm not going to try and replicate that, instead I will place a fireplace on that wall.

The bookshelves are built into the walls in the set, but given the limitations of my dollhouse, I'm not sure I want to build mine in or I will lose too much space. I'm also not sure how many tables I will be able to fit into the room until I make up the kit table I purchased and see it in the room. I'm just going for the feel of the space anyway, not an exact replica.

I've never made any books before, but I can see my teeny tiny book-making skills are going to get a work out!!

The Fairfield: Mood Board Exterior

As I mentioned in my previous post, I am torn about my original choice of distressed white for the siding.  My muse is this house:

But now I am wondering if something like this wouldn't be more imposing and scary-looking:

I love the black trim against the dark, Gothic red! I don't know if I would go really red, but maybe a faded red over the crackle glaze. Or a really deep, deep red.

I am also considering a Mansard roof instead of a whole new room on the tower, with one or more of the Victorian windows I abandoned early on in construction - they are similar to the ones in the roof of this house.

And, as you can see, I've been fiddling with the Juliet balcony railings again. Meh. I might have to try making something myself.

The Fairfield: Mood Board Kitchen

I ADORE this witch's kitchen, it's so full of cool things! It is in 12th scale, but I have bought the same Braxton Payne stone oven in 24th scale to add to my kitchen.

This kitchen by Studio Soo is also in 12th scale, but my goodness it's gorgeous inspiration.

I have been looking at sinks, and I have found the one used here, in bare wood. I think with some weathering it would come up well.

The Fairfield: Mood Board Foyer

I'm not really sure yet what sort of flooring I want in the entry foyer, but I will have to make a start on it before I glue in the tower walls, so I need to start thinking about it now.

I've been looking at pictures of the Men of Letters bunker in the TV show Supernatural.  I particularly like the anti-Demon possession pentacle surrounded by the sun. Sam and Dean have them tattooed on their chests and then it makes an appearance in the floor of the bunker, made from brass.

I also like theses tiles which are placed in the doorways, and contain warding symbols. I might place these underneath the lounge room door archway and between the lounge room and the work room.

I bought this chandelier last year, which was orginally going to be for the lounge room, but I am debating about putting it in the foyer.  I think the wall light would be more atmospheric - plus you won't be able to see the chandelier very well if it is in the foyer - but I am still drawn to the big light.  I guess I will decide when it gets closer to the actual installation stage.

I've also ordered a new door for the front of the house. This door has a transom and is much taller than the old door, so there will be more light able to shine out (and more the of light fitting to see).

The Fairfield: Mood Board Living Room

I've been looking for some inspiration for the living room on Pinterest, and I think I've found the mood I'm looking for: lots of timber, and a heavy, masculine feel with possibly 1920's club chairs and an overstuffed sofa. Lots of books, piled everywhere.

The two photos below have many elements of this theme, I think they're gorgeous!  I can't decide whether to go with the white, embossed ceiling, or the one with the timber beams? Both are great.

Fantastic door and ceiling treatments

This is the wallpaper I ordered, but in the 1:24 scale, you can barely see the gold damask pattern unfortunately. Still, I think it will look OK.

Also, this is the ceiling light I think I have settled on for the lounge room - it's not the one I originally bought for the room as I have since done some swapping around, but I think it adds more to the mood I am trying to achieve. I also have a lit fire to go in the grate, although I may end up swapping this out for another room as I'm not sure it's formal enough.

The Fairfield: Mood Board Library

I really wish  that the dollhouse had double height ceilings! I considered adding an extra inch or two to the height of the first and second floors but realistically, this is probably making things unnecessarily difficult for myself. Sigh.

Anyway, although the library won't be nearly as grand as I had hoped, I'm thinking:

* Floor to ceiling shelving, and perhaps a chandelier

* A grand fireplace, red velvet chairs and a spiral staircase

* And wood panelling everywhere.

The Fairfield: Mood Board Interiors

As I mentioned with the exterior, I'm going for the mood of an old, (seemingly) abandoned Victorian lady. I want the interior to be dark and moody, although I am unsure at this stage as to how sinister I want it to feel. I'm thinking of using mainly grey, black, burgundy and very dark timbers.

Wallpapers I like so far include these three:

The flooring will probably be black walnut timber, and I may floor the kitchen with flagstones:

The ceilings will probably be embossed with lots of detail in the main rooms. Certainly there will be ceiling roses:

At this stage I have read several tutorials on using paint washes to age dollhouse interiors, so I intend to have a go at that around the edges of the walls and floors as well.
